Architecture & Design -
Exterior Description:
The Harbour Bay Locomotive Works is a distinctive landmark within the Industrial Harbour district. The roundhouse, with its circular design and radiating bays, is a unique structure that stands out among the more traditional warehouses and workshops. The attached tinker shop, a bustling hub of activity, is marked by its large windows and the constant stream of workers and materials flowing in and out. A towering smokestack, rising from the heart of the Works, releases plumes of steam and smoke, a visible reminder of the power and potential of this new technology.
Interior Description:
The interior of the roundhouse is a sight to behold. The circular space, with its radiating bays, provides ample room for the locomotives to be stored and serviced. The central turntable, powered by the steady efforts of donkeys or mules, allows the engines to be easily rotated and directed to their designated bays. The tinker shop is a hive of activity, with skilled mechanics and engineers working diligently to maintain and repair the locomotives. The air is filled with the sounds of industry, the clang of hammers, the hiss of steam, and the smell of oil and grease.
