The Death of the The First Dragon caused the event known as the Splintering. The Splintering caused the soul of the The First Dragon to disperse out among the planescape, becoming a conduit of magic and tethering the planes together. The release of the magic inherent in the The First Dragon infused the world and planescape itself with magic.
