The Nine Hells, or the Hells, is the domain of Devils, collecting and torturing the souls of damned mortals.
The Nine Hells lie within Baator, each Hell surrounded by the Abyss. In Baator, the Devils of the Hells are wrapped in the endless Blood War against the Demons of the Abyss.
Each of the Nine Hells is ruled by a Duke or Duchess, ruled from a principal seat or city. Highest among all the Devil Lords is the Prince of the Hells Asmodeus.
The Nine Hells of Baator
The First Hell, Avernus
From the desolate fiery wastes of Avernus ring the turmoil of the eternal Blood War. Legions of Devils clash with hordes of Demons, their blood forming rivers all across the land.
Avernus is a desolate wasteland with rocky terrain, sparse, twisted vegetation, concealed snake pits, caves and warrens, volcanoes, and rivers of magma. The sky is starless save for a massive black sun rimmed by flame. The sky is full of choking smoke and glows a dark red due to balls of flammable gas that floats about or streaks across the atmosphere, randomly exploding as fireballs. Mountains of black and red rock slash up from the landscape. Scaling these, a traveller might find themselves cut and torn by the jagged obsidian and quarts emerging from the stone. Blood, gore, sinew, and skeletal remains are scattered all round Avernus, the remains of devils, demons, and unlucky mortals. No natural plant life, animals, or water sources are found here. Small streams of blood are found all over Avernus, eventually coalescing into the Styx, turning the usually dark waters red. Beyond the bounds of Avernus lies the Abyss with its demon hordes. Demon Lords also at times open portals anywhere in Avernus to strike.
The Second Hell, Diz
The second layer of the Hells is formed of the Iron City of Diz, a massive city fortress made enteriely of red hot iron, scorching to the touch.
The Third Hell, Daedalon
In the Third Hell lies Daedalon, the Maze of False Believers. Here, in this infinite maze, wander the lost souls of the sanctimonious without end.
The Fourth Hell, Minauros
In the endless dark desert of Minauros wander those damned for greed and avarice, forever trapped in desolation and want.

In the putrid bogs of Malabsum lie the decaying bodies of insatiable and gluttonous. In Malabsum, those damned for their excess and insatiability are forever tormented by pollution, rot, and decay.

In the vast frigid oceans of Stygia the damned souls of the envious are tormented.

In the unending warfields of Foria the damned souls of the wrathful battle and die for eternity.

In the Eight lies the Infernal Courts of the Nine Hells.
The Ninth Hell, Nessus
In the deepest pits of the Nine Hells lies Nessus, a blazing desolation of hellfire and lava, and seat of the Prince of the Nine, Asmodeus. Here, souls damned for their hubris, pride, and ambition forever burn.
