The Tabaxi
Also called Khajit
A race of cat-like humanoids. In Asdar they are most common in the lands of Ajuraas and Quantalus, yet a folk of forest tabaxi live in the Northern regions of Asdar.
Tabaxi are a race of natural explorers who rarely tire of trailblazing, but such trailblazing is not limited merely to the search for new horizons in distant lands. Many Tabaxi see personal growth and development as equally valid avenues of exploration. While most Tabaxi are nimble, capable, and often active creatures, there is also a strong tendency among some Tabaxi to engage in quiet contemplation and study. Such individuals are interested in finding new solutions to age-old problems and questioning even the most steadfast philosophical certainties of the day. They are curious by nature, and Tabaxi culture never discourages inquisitiveness, but rather fosters and encourages it. Tabaxi value independence and see it as a great shame to be dependent on others. This is not say that they are individualists, tabaxis often forming large networks of relations that help each other out. Many are seen as quirky extroverts by members of other races, but within Tabaxi tribes there is no shame attached to minor peculiarities, eccentricities, or foolhardiness.
All Tabaxi are blessed with at least one feline trait. This can for example be curiosity, laziness, cruelty, attachment, or a drive to hunt.
The Tabaxi are prone to wander driven by curiosity to collect interesting artifacts, tales and stories, and to lay eyes on all the world's wonders. Ultimate travelers, the inquisitive tabaxi rarely stay in one place for long. Their innate nature pushes them to leave no secrets uncovered, no treasures or legends lost. A wandering tabaxi is likely to always wear trinkets and baubles collected on their travels.
Most tabaxi are content to dwell in their small clans, communities or networks of self-reliant tabaxi. These tabaxi hunt for food, craft goods, and largely keep to themselves. However, not all tabaxi are satisfied with such a life. Those tabaxi gifted with curiosity are compelled to wander far and wide. They seek out stories, artifacts, and lore. Those who survive this period of wanderlust return home in their elder years to share news of the outside world. In this manner, the tabaxi remain isolated but never ignorant of the world beyond their home.
Wandering tabaxi are mercurial creatures, trading one obsession or passion for the next as the whim strikes. A tabaxi's desire burns bright, but once met it disappears to be replaced with a new obsession. Objects remain intriguing only as long as they still hold secrets.
A tabaxi rogue could happily spend months plotting to steal a strange gem from a noble, only to trade it for passage on a ship or a week's lodging after stealing it. The tabaxi might take extensive notes or memorize every facet of the gem before passing it on, but the gem holds no more allure once its secrets and nature have been laid bare.
