The Old King Rhodri was said to be the grandson of a Flourmani King and an Elven King who killed one another in battle, their children finding love and producing Rhodri. As a youth, Rhodri was the heir to a small strip of lands in the area between the Scorching Highlands and the Markolak Mountains. Before his time would come however, his father was killed and his titles taken by another count. Rhodri was driven from his lands and spent a summer and winter wandering.
In time he would meet a wizard who took him under his wing. As the two wandered they found themselves faced with many challenges, overcoming them and making the lands behind them safer. Over the years, Rhodri amassed a following of companions and warriors and in time would return to his homelands. He drove out his father's killed and took charge of the land as lord. As this happened, those people he had saved the last years flocked to him and swore their loyalty to him.
His father's killer was still alive and he went abroad and solicited the aid of other vile counts, forming a coalition to destroy the upstart. Rhodri and his followers met them in battle and defeated them, ending the machinations of the blackguard. Rhodri was proclaimed king by his companions and he swore to rule justly and to bring peace to the lands of Kantvar.
Over the next years, the lands between Flourmanie and the Sea of Avelon all came under him, most of them willingly while King Rhodri only made war on those that threatened his vassals. Kantvar united, King Rhodri ruled peacefully for many years, his next adventures only in service of the kingdom's peace. His rule is said to have been a golden age of the Kantvari, dubbed the King's Golden Age. King Rhodri is said to have ruled for 100 years before willingly going into his grave, knowing his lands and people were safe and prosperous. It is believed the Old King is not actually dead, only in slumber as he awaits a time of despair when he will return to Kantvar to save the lands.
Following King Rhodri's rule his descendents would take the crown. Two generations after the Old King went into his slumber, the kingdom fell into infighting for some time until Rhodri's great-granddaughter Queen Gwendolynne retook control and ushered in a second golden age, lasting the next few generations, dubbed the Queen's Golden Age.
