Bhaal is a god of Despair, Pain, and the Madness this causes.

During the War of the Gods, Bhaal was a chief god on the side of Asmodeus. When Asmodeus and the Demonic Lords were cast into Baator and took dominion of the Nine Hells, Bhaal instead became a deity of the chaotic Abyss.

Cosmologically, Bhaal is opposed to Manirse, Goddess of Hope.
