Mount Arrigo

Mount Arrigo

Mt Arrigo is a mountain peninsula overlooking the Sea of Fate. Known for its split peak, it is the first landing site of The Grove on Mundus Ferox. It is named for the Arrigo brothers and is the current host of the Merchant’s Guild.

Origin

To explore new lands, The Grove mustered the strength to pursue in its newly acquired Transport Vessel, a ship called the Strix. The Arrigo brothers-- Do'su and Trez-- safely steered the Grove through the churning seas and finally east to a newly discovered continent, Mundus Ferox. The ridgeline, where the Grove first anchored, later became the site of a settlement known as Mt. Arrigo.

Description

Mt. Arrigo itself appears as though cloven in two. It has an ingress channel to allow trading vessels to pass, but it is difficult to accommodate larger War Galleys. Within this channel (and throughout the mountains in ways only known to its residents), caves snake through the mountain walls and into the earth.

Overlooking the Sea of Fate, Mt. Arrigo is a microcosm of Mundus Ferox: striking and primal. At the rocky beaches, there are jetties that shield the coastline and allow for anchored vessels to come to trade. Hot springs dot the coves, perhaps hinting at a volcanic origin. A vast cave network, both natural and hand-carved, lead into the mountains, a welcome respite from the elements. Mines sprawl into the earth and upward through the mountain, host to native dwarves, refugee miners, treasure hunters, and others of all backgrounds. Some of the dwellers use the native stone and build their dwellings into the mountain. Others settle on the mountain range, overlooking the sea.

Upward toward the peaks, nothing can beat the sunrise or sunset on Mt. Arrigo, sea shimmering and breath cold. One can see for miles.

Growth to Town

In 2023, with a mind toward creating a capital of commerce in the eastern hemisphere, Trez Arrigo invested in stabilizing the hollow tunnels of the mountain and furnishing dwellings in and around the mountains. Under his guidance, a quarry was built to facilitate housing, development, and exports for new projects.

Trez envisions both the peaks and depths of the twin mountains as a tucked away headquarters for the Merchant’s Guild. His intention was to create a seat of power beneath the mountain to facilitate this growth, repurposing old pirate store-holds as housing and the coves as means of transport.

The once-dark hollows of the mountain have began to dance with torchlight as others have opted to settle here with convenient access to many merchants' wares-- and not-so-convenient access to the Bank Vault-- called Ferox Holdings-- in the heart of the mountain.

Growth to City

In 2025, the mines beneath Mt. Arrigo echo with pickaxes and rushing mine carts.

From the apex of the twin mountain down into the core of Osterra: Mt. Arrigo grew into a City. The upper levels house the Merchant’s Guildhouse proper, with piers of product unloaded and awaiting purchase. And deep below, in the snaking caves and pirate coves, deals can be struck without prying eyes. Denizens of the City may dwell on the surface or take shelter in the hewn stone caverns.

Ferox Holdings, the vault of Mt. Arrigo, is now ready to house treasures worth seeking. Trez has tinkered with new forms of Traps to deter such entrepreneurs. Much of his attention is spent on digging deeper and deeper into Osterra.
