Rosedale
Originally a refugee encampment for those fleeing the Plains of Sorrow, Rosedale now sits as a welcoming town many pass through as they come to the eastern peninsula of Nova Regnus.
Origin
Rosedale was never a planned village. When The Cast came to the eastern peninsula of Nova Regnus the lands where Rosedale now stands were nothing more than grasslands on either side of an isthmus between a lake and the Sea of Fate. As General Ferdinand, the warmaster for The Demonic Dominion, raided, pillaged, and enslaved the common folk of the area that would be called the Plains of Sorrow, refugees fled in every direction. One of these directions was into the lands The Cast was protecting.
As more and more beings fled into the area, Sir Tanos Hrafnar sent his security forces, The Black Cloaks, into these meadows to provide order and safety. A tent city was established with the idea that this would be a temporary situation, but the flow of refugees never slowed. Permanent structures were soon constructed including aid stations and barracks in order to provide better protection and aide to the incoming so that they may be sent further East to safety. While The Black Cloaks simply referred to the site as the ‘Southern Encampment’ or the ‘Refugee Waystation’, the plainsfolk began referring to the dale by their one of their patron saints, Rose. She was known for providing for the sick and afflicted and finding the lost souls. The name Rosedale soon became the accepted name for the small village.
Growth
With the ever-increasing threat of the Demonic Domain and their constant probing of The Cast’s defenses, it became apparent that more than the simple structures must be built in order to safeguard the refugees. A Watchtower was quickly constructed so that the enemy would be spotted with enough time to evacuate if needed. A small wall and gate were constructed around the village to provide additional safety.
The aid station that was constructed was expanded and then duplicated as more and more arrived with both physical and mental wounds. In addition, Ferdinand’s corruption had spread into the plainsfolk. Once making their way into Rosedale, they would foster dissension and often violence. Fortunately, The Cast’s healers were able to diagnose the nature of the issue and develop methods to segregate the corrupted for their safety until the corruption was removed.
Despite its initial purpose and constant hardships, many refugees decided to make Rosedale their new home. With more and more news of successes battling the demons to the west, some refugees who had previously passed through Rosedale have come back, hopeful to be closer to the lands they left. This has led to Rosedale becoming the second largest population center on the eastern peninsula of Nova Regnus. Grateful for the safety and refuge the town of Rosedale provided them, the residents have consciously worked hard to make the town a very warm and welcoming entry point for those traveling towards New Ravenfall, or elsewhere to the east.
