Traditionalists

The traditionalist faction comprises an alliance formed by influential fishing families, local merchants, and workers dependent on these industries for their livelihood. Their collective memory of the devastating Sea Princes' raids fuels their opposition to any ambitions by the crown that may lead to open warfare. Interestingly, many of the smugglers operating in the area align themselves with the traditionalist mindset. These clandestine traders often masquerade as merchants and rely on their network of contacts to transport goods throughout the region without interference from the town guard or royal agents. Smuggling has long been viewed as a lucrative endeavor in Saltmarsh, and the locals generally turn a blind eye to it, considering it a victimless transgression.

The traditionalists' primary objective is to ensure the failure of the dwarves' mining endeavors and a decline in interest from outsiders, enabling Saltmarsh's dependable fishing trade to thrive while preserving the autonomy of the smugglers in the area. They harbor resentment towards outsiders who seek to transform Saltmarsh, perceiving such changes as a means to strip power from the fishing families and transfer it to the dwarves and merchants.

Within the council, the traditionalist faction finds representation through two members. Eda Oweland leads the faction and enjoys the support of Gellan Primewater . Although young and unpredictable, Anders Solmor has consistently aligned with the traditionalists on most issues, further bolstering their cause.

At their core, traditionalists are individuals committed to the well-being of the community, yearning for Saltmarsh to revert to its original way of functioning. They argue that the town has thrived for a century by adhering to its original principles. Having endured immense suffering during the Sea Princes' raids, they recall the days when the crown turned a blind eye to their hardships. While their loyalty to the king remains, their desire for peace and tranquility takes precedence.
