The Scarlet Brotherhood asserts that its followers are descendants of the ancient Suel Imperium, an empire of old, and their ultimate objective is to restore the once-revered Suloise noble houses to a position of prominence in the world. Viewing themselves as superior to all other individuals, they consider it their sole entitlement to rule.
Over the course of many decades, this enigmatic group has been meticulously plotting a conspiracy aimed at sowing fear, chaos, and uncertainty throughout the lands. When the opportune moment arrives, the Brotherhood will unleash their forces, aiming to seize control of kingdoms far and wide. Their assassins have already eliminated those who might stand in opposition to their nefarious schemes. Across the realms, their agents have surreptitiously assumed influential roles in nearly every court, be it a remote and insignificant barony or the grand imperial courts of powerful nations.
In Saltmarsh, the Brotherhood lends its support to councilman Anders Solmor and his family's trade cartel. Their intention is to exploit Anders as a means to destabilize the region, undermine the authority of the crown, and pave the way for the Scarlet Brotherhood's ascension to power. The Brotherhood orchestrates arrangements for the Solmor fleet to conduct lucrative trade with eager merchants in distant ports, who pay exorbitant sums far above market value for the goods. This ensures Anders' popularity and deepens his reliance on connections provided by the Brotherhood. Their plan involves surrounding him with their own advisers and operatives to exert control over the development of Saltmarsh. Additionally, they aim to ignite a full-scale war between Keoland and the Sea Princes, leaving both realms weakened and vulnerable, thereby providing an opportunity for the Scarlet Brotherhood to seize control.
Tattoo
Every member belonging to the enigmatic organization known as the Scarlet Brotherhood bears a concealed tattoo of their symbol, carefully hidden from casual observation. These tattoos serve as a discreet identifier, and if a character manages to uncover their significance, it can become a valuable means of identifying Brotherhood members in the future. It is important to note that these tattoos are typically small in size and expertly placed in one of two concealed locations: either on the underside of the foot or strategically concealed beneath the hair, typically on the skull. These deliberately covert placements ensure that the tattoos remain inconspicuous and allow Brotherhood members to blend seamlessly into society, undetected by the untrained eye. Discovering the secret tattoo and recognizing its true meaning can unlock a hidden layer of intrigue, unraveling the intricate web woven by the Scarlet Brotherhood and potentially exposing their machinations to those who possess this knowledge.
Skerrin Wavechaser is the current leader of the Brotherhood within Saltmarsh. His attention is focused on shifting the power balance and supporting Anders Solmor who has no idea of Skerrin’s true intentions or affiliation.
Unlike the other factions within Saltmarsh, the Scarlet Brotherhood lacks any semblance of a noble cause. They are unrepentant megalomaniacs, embodying pure villainy in their pursuits.
The Scarlet Brotherhood, at present, regards the smugglers as a mere annoyance, lacking significant interest in their operations. However, they perceive the smugglers as a potential force to be manipulated or even forged into an alliance in the future, should the need arise. Unaware of Gellan Primewater leadership within the smuggling network, the Brotherhood's perception could shift drastically if they were to discover his position. In such a scenario, they might seek to befriend and manipulate him, utilizing his influence to further their own agenda within Saltmarsh. The Brotherhood recognizes the potential value that the smugglers hold, and if their paths were to intersect, they would not hesitate to exploit this newfound opportunity to further their own designs.
