Decription

The river narrows and darkens as it winds into the Drowned Forest. The air grows heavy, thick with rot and the sickly-sweet scent of fungus. Dead cypress trees rise from the black water, their pale grey trunks covered in moss and lichen.

Clusters of strange mushrooms glow faintly along the roots and branches, shedding green light across the surface of the river. A cloud of spores drifts through the mist, clinging to your clothes and skin.

The only sounds are the slow drip of water, the creak of the trees in the current, and the occasional croaking frog breaks the silence.

Rats huddle beneath a log, something has terrified them into unnatural clustering.

A swarm of rats pours from a hollow log, fleeing a distant howl. The swarm will climb anything to escape.

A giant lizard lies belly-up in mud, paralyzed but alive, its eyes roll toward a nearby patch of violent fungus.

Mosquito-thin shrieks pierce the air as swarm of insects descends from the canopy.

A giant toad struggles to swallow something large. Its throat distends grotesquely, the shape of a humanoid hand presses from inside.

Two giant toads fight violently over a half-devoured corpse. They stop only when they notice fresh prey.

A swarm of ravens caws at the party, circling aggressively, seemingly warning you away from a patch of black water.

Ravens perch silently in rows on dead branches. Their eyes glow faintly blue, possessed by a will-o’-wisp.

A cluster of spiders gives chase to a dying rat. Moments later, a giant spider descends, snatching the entire swarm.

A phase spider blinks in and out, dragging a zombie half into the Ethereal plane, leaving half lying in front of you.

A swarm of stirges feeds on a lizardfolk corpse tangled in vines. They attack if disturbed.

Stirges cling to the underside of a fallen log, feeding quietly on a sleeping ghoul. Disturbing either triggers chaos.

A bullywug bog sage stands atop a dead stump, chanting over a bound halfling. declaring them “sacrifice for Wastri.”

Dead bullywugs rise as zombies, bubbling and gasping as swamp water pours endlessly from their mouths.
