Stone Portal
Hidden deep within the Drowned Forest, more than 30 leagues upriver along the upper Dunwater, lies a half-buried stone portal carved with ancient symbols. It is said to link directly to the Temple of Elemental Evil far to the east.
A long time ago, a cult devoted to Zuggtmoy, the Demon Queen of Fungi, stumbled into the forest. Twisted by spores from Zuggtmoy, they carried with them a corrupted Decanter of Endless Water, its flow drawn not from the Plane of Water, but from the seas of the Abyss. When the waters from the vessel was unleashed, a tide of foul, living water drowned the forest and tainted its soil forever.
With Zuggtmoy’s imprisonment in the Temple of Elemental Evil, her cult fell to madness and decay. The portal remains a dormant Abyssal rift that stirs with each full moon, bleeding demonic spores into the air and spawning horrors that prowl the forest depths. The portal is surrounded by violet fungus.
Those who somehow reactivate the portal find themselves drawn across a veil of green mist to the gates of the Temple of Elemental Evil. Deep within that ruin, a twin archway awaits, one that can return travelers to the Drowned Forest, though few who step through ever emerge unchanged.
Suggested Encounters:
Cultist Fanatic (undead) remain, attempting to open the portal.
Violet Fungus Necrohulk that attacks the party if they damage the violet fungus.
