Courtyard & Stables

The courtyard is a worn stretch of dirt and stone, used for drills, mustering guards, and brief prisoner labor. Crates and barrels line the walls, and a battered training dummy leans from repeated strikes.

Along the eastern wall, the stables house sturdy patrol horses, their scent mixing with hay and the forge’s drifting smoke. Despite its wear, the space remains a busy hub of barracks life.

Armory & Forge

The armory is a secure, orderly space stocked with standard weapons, shields, and chain and leather armor for the town guard. Spears and swords line the walls, while locked chests guard more valuable gear.

Next door, the forge glows with embers and the rhythmic clang of hammer on metal. The blacksmith toils amid heat, smoke, and coal’s sharp scent, keeping the guard’s arms and armor in fighting shape.

Main Hall

The Main Hall is the barracks' formal center, hosting meetings, hearings, and strategic discussions. A long green banner leads to a sturdy wooden table and the commanding officer’s high-backed chair.

Worn tapestries and simple banners add a touch of authority to the otherwise austere space. A heavy iron chandelier casts dim light, while a small hearth wards off the chill. Though sparse, the hall exudes discipline and duty.

Kraddok Stonehorn is often found here, discussing matters with the guards. He will meet with Eliander Fireborn in this hall when needed. If the Party has official business with the barracks, it will most likely be conducted here. Thorne Caldwell may also be here.

Watch Tower

The Watch Tower stands tall over the barracks, overseeing Saltmarsh and the distant coast. A narrow stone staircase winds up to a small, open platform where a weathered guard post keeps watch.

A rusty bell hangs from a wooden beam, ready to sound the alarm. The salty breeze carries the crash of waves and the town’s murmur below. Though rarely fully manned, the tower remains a crucial first line of defense.

There is always one guard on duty, keeping watch for ships, fire, and trouble from the Hool Marsh just on the outskirts of town.

Barracks

The barracks provide cramped wooden bunks, footlockers, and the scent of sweat and oiled leather. Dim lanterns cast light over worn tables where off-duty guards gamble, sharpen weapons, or share stories.

Sparse yet functional, it houses aging veterans and rowdy recruits alike. The air hums with tired voices and occasional snores—a brief respite from the discipline beyond its walls.

Dinning Hall

The Dining Hall is a simple yet lively space where guards gather at long, worn wooden tables for meals. The air carries the scent of stew, bread, and ale, mingling with murmured conversation and bursts of laughter.

A large hearth crackles at one end, casting warmth and light over dented mugs and mismatched plates. Modest but welcoming, it offers a rare moment of camaraderie amid the rigors of duty.

Kitchen

The kitchen is a compact, bustling space filled with the rich aromas of roasting meat, boiling stew, and fresh bread. A large stone hearth crackles, its flames licking at blackened pots and iron cauldrons.

Wooden shelves hold sacks of grain, dried herbs, and simple provisions, while a well-worn butcher’s block bears the scars of heavy use. Far from luxurious, it keeps the guards fed and ready for duty.
