Conclusion – The Fate of the Apparatus

If the party recovers the Apparatus of Kwalish, multiple factions move swiftly to claim it. How events unfold depends on who has learned of its recovery and what choices the party makes. Below are the likely reactions and outcomes by faction.

Kingdom of Keoland (Loyalists)

  • Captain Fireborn deploys the Garrison to secure the Apparatus as royal property.

  • He delivers it to the Envoy of the Circle of Eight, who ensures its safe transfer.

  • The party receives modest recognition but loses physical possession of the device.

  • Keoland hails this as a naval success and act of loyalty, increasing royal influence in Saltmarsh.

“The Crown reclaims what was lost. The tides of order are restored.”

The Envoy

  • If the party chooses to turn over the Apparatus of Kwalish to the Envoy, it is quietly transported out of Saltmarsh under the Circle’s protection.

  • No public recognition is given the entire affair is buried in secrecy.

  • In a week, the party receives a sealed letter from the Circle of Eight naming them Friends of the Circle, a powerful political and social distinction throughout world.

  • As a personal reward, the envoy presents a scroll of Wish, the Circle’s token of gratitude.

  • Captain Fireborn is informed privately, ensuring the Crown recognizes the party’s cooperation, though the device itself vanishes into arcane custody.

“Few mortals act without self-interest. You have done what even wizards rarely do...the right thing.”

Keledek the Wizard

  • Desires the Apparatus for study, not power.

  • Will not interfere if it goes to Keoland or the Sea Princes, but fears it falling to Iuz.

  • If Xendros moves to claim it, he intervenes, directly or through magical proxies.

  • If aware of Gellan’s deceit, he quietly warns the party:

“Primewater is not what he seems. His ships move more than fish.”

Gellan Primewater & the Smugglers

  • Primewater privately urges the party not to surrender it to either the Crown or the Sea Princes.

  • Claims both would turn it into a weapon of war and that only he can “keep it safe.”

  • In truth, he wants to hide or sell the device through his smuggling network.

  • If discovered, Keledek may expose Gellan’s double game to the party.

“Let the Crown and Princes fight their wars. We’ll keep this one secret — and alive.”

Sea Princes

  • If aware of the discovery, the Sea Princes dispatch a privateer or warship to the Tyrants.

  • Their goal: take the Apparatus by force as soon as it surfaces.

  • The encounter likely results in a naval battle, either at sea or near the coast.

  • If successful, they use the device as a weapon and political catalyst, reigniting war with Keoland.

“The Crown hides its treasures at the bottom of our sea. We merely take back what is ours.”

Captain Xendros & the Faithful Quartermasters of Iuz

  • Upon learning the party has recovered the Apparatus, Xendros contacts Iuz immediately.

  • She offers gold and magic in exchange for it. If refused, she turns to darker means.

  • Within days, agents of Iuz or summoned demons begin hunting the party to reclaim it.

  • This can become an ongoing pursuit arc until the device is delivered, destroyed, or no longer in their possession.

“My master rewards obedience — and punishes waste.”
