5e Orb of Power Compatibility

For the sake of balance: Orbs created in this fashion cannot be picked up by the creature that generates them.

If there are scenarios not covered by this page, Orb of Power generation can be up to DM discretion.

  • If a Spellcaster reduces a creature to 0 hitpoints with a damaging Spell, they generate a number of orbs equal to the Spell's level, halved, and rounded up, per creature, to a maximum of 5.

  • When a Barbarian ends their Rage, they generate an Orb of Power. If they reduced a creature's hitpoints to 0 during their Rage, they generate additional Orbs of Power equal to the number of creatures when their Rage ends. (For instance, if the Barbarian kills two creatures during a Rage, they generate 3 Orbs of Power once the Rage ends.)

  • If a Fighter uses their Second Wind, they generate an Orb of Power. If a Fighter Subclass uses a resource, (Arcane Archer shot, Battlemaster Battle Manuever, Cavalier Special Mark, etc.) They also generate an Orb of Power. If the Fighter has the Champion Subclass, they generate an Orb of Power when they land a Critical Hit.

  • Once per turn, if a Monk spends a Ki point, they generate an Orb of Power. If they spend 3 or more Ki points at once in a turn, they instead generate 3 Orbs of Power.

  • If a Rogue rolls above-average on their Sneak Attack damage roll, they generate 1 Orb of Power.

  • If a Paladin reduces a creature to 0 hitpoints through the damage of a Smite, they generate 2 Orbs of Power.

  • If an Artificer uses their Action for activating or de-activating an effect from Magical Tinkering, they generate an Orb of Power. (This should balance out with the Artificer basically making themselves useless outside of being an Orb-Generator, hopefully?)

  • If a Bard or a creature they inspire uses a Bardic Inspiration and the Inspiration die results in a success, the Bard generates an Orb of Power.
