The Whispering Willow Violin was said to have been crafted by an elven artisan long ago, using the fallen branch of a willow that grew near a sacred spring. The instrument was imbued with the power of the spring’s waters—known to reveal hidden truths and bring clarity to those who listen. However, such clarity comes at a cost, as the willow does not differentiate between the secrets it shares or those it exposes.

When Cantus plays the Whispering Willow Violin, he may attempt to uncover a hidden truth or gain insight into the thoughts of others.Positive Effect: Once per day, when playing the violin, Cantus can focus on a single individual within 30 feet. He gains a fleeting insight into their thoughts or uncovers a hidden truth about them (as if affected by a read thoughts spell or similar divination magic). This truth can be profound or seemingly inconsequential, depending on the circumstances.
Negative Effect: The violin’s magic works both ways. When the insight is gained, there is a 20% chance (rolling a d20, 1–4) that one of Cantus’ own private thoughts, memories, or feelings leaks out to those nearby in a brief, audible whisper. These whispers are ambiguous but can still reveal uncomfortable or sensitive information.
Cataclysmic (Tag): This tag indicates that an ability is extremely powerful and can only be used once per encounter. If one Cataclysmic ability is used, no other abilities with the Cataclysmic tag can be used by any character in the same encounter. This represents the high-stakes, high-reward nature of these abilities.
