Azure: Chronicles of Lythran

Deep in The Praesidium, the great fortress-library nestled in the mountainside town of Alfaer, the arcane scribe Marie Mytchell puts down her quill; content with a hard day's work in the candle-lit murk. She leans back and stretches, her eyes adjusting to the flickering light of the hanging candelabras above her. She's getting too old to spend so long hunched over, she reckons. With a sharp pang that rings through her lower back, she climbs to her feet and looks upon her pride. The Complete Histories of the Once-Kingdom of Lythran; a mighty tome, it'll take another few years to finish yet.

With so much of her country's history being warped and distorted by those poorly trained archivists that came before her, she is taking it upon herself not just to take the last scribe's word for it but to take into account other points of view. The citizens of Eária and Thêsos have impacted Lythran's history more than the Eolder Council would like to admit; saints forgive, even the The Wildfolk and the dwarves of the north have had their say.

She finds her favourite folk to write about, however, are not kings; queens; lords and ladies; it is people. Ordinary wandering folk who find themselves embroiled in events that far exceed their expectations. In a land of such cruelty and mistrust, it is people like this that she adores the most. These wanderers with kindness and love, duty and honour, faith and trust. These vagrant souls are not just limited to the children's stories her mother had read her as a girl; she knows that now more than most. Ever since her pilgrimage across Lythran and her adventures with those she met along the way, the wanderlust had never ceased.

Her thoughts turn back time in her mind, musing on half forgotten smiles and the pride of a full life - just like that, the set sun, her aching back and her calloused ink-stained fingers are forgotten.

She knows just who to write about next...
