The Race of Gnome
Characterised by their exaggerated features and similarly exaggerated relationships to their homeland, Gnomes are deeply tied to their surroundings; taking on physical features and metaphysical faculties that reflect them. Where Flint gnomes have bonded with their taller neighbours and become entirely at home within the sprawling streets of Humanity, Twig Gnomes have entirely rejected this - mirroring and protecting their forested surroundings with a ferocity alien to most common folk.
Despite their differences Flint and Twig Gnomes both have long since had a close bond with Humanity; being similarly maligned and subjugated before the Grand Exodus of 450 BUE, with Flint Gnomes in particular having a key part in the establishment of Lythran as an independent state and civilisation.
Deep Gnomes, however, broke from their cousins' surface-dwelling traditions eons ago, and have since sequestered themselves along with the other Deep Peoples within the The Crawling World.
Despite their sundry appearances and mannerisms, Gnomes all claim a common ancestry from the continent of Thêsos, alongside Humanity.
Sub-cultures of Gnome
Flint Gnomes
Sharp featured and often sharper minds, these gnomes have long established a culture of fluxian connection and artifice. Oft found in the urban areas of Lythran, but also one of the few non-duerv cultures bregrudgingly accepted by the Honurium.
Twig Gnomes
Browner of skin than their Flint cousins, originating from the southern jungles of Thêsos; these diminutive men and women have long since kept from the Human settlements of Lythran; preferring the 'safety' of the crisp forests of Norn or humid Verdwelian canopies.
Deep Gnomes
Craggy and grey-skinned, deep gnomes share little features with their surface-originating brethren. With a history once inscribed in the slate-halls of their ancestors; since its destruction, they have spread out past the crust of Azure to the surface in search of new homes and futures.
Flint Gnomes
"They say Flint and Steel conquered Lythran. I say the embers of those fires still smoulder!" - Benjamin Frazemarc, Gnomish Revolutionary
