"The only warning that day was the smell of rot on the ocean wind. A sickness on the waves. Deckborne"
About
A dangerous collection of raiding clans, uniting under one new sea-elf leader.
The vessels used by Deckborne raiding parties are seemingly disposable, hobbled together from scrap and driftwood. Their tactics are hard and fast, usually to great cost of both ships, so the raided trader's hull soon becomes used carry Deckborne Sons onward to more pillage and murder.
Ever since their emergence however, one legend has risen like scum to the surface of the waves, a sight that sailors across the eight oceans have learned to dread. When a ship is becalmed in the doldrums, with no wind to buffet their sails; the waves may still lap and become a sickly crimson, staining their hulls with bleeding tongues. As a ship is marked by this carmine flow, the crew know their doom approaches.
Like an angry god, skirmishers appear out of the depths on vessels of driftwood and burned caravels, headed by a sea-elf captain known only as "Red Tide".
History
Around thirty years ago, once the aftermath of the Elder Council's ascendance had faded, and the maritime economy began flourishing through the Lythic Channel; a series of brutal raiding began occuring and disrupting trade.
Their attacks were different to the usual boardings and hijacking that was common before the council's rule, with most of the trading vessels that came into contact with the Deckborne menace not surviving. Ships are wrecked and dismantled, their cargo looted chaotically and their remains burnt, with the crew either becoming deckborne themselves or tied to the sails and burnt.
