The death of the final king of Lythran, King Gustav II. Upon his death, his previously announced plan to end the monarchy and establish a republic begins, with the establishment of the Eolder Council. A few greater houses are unhappy, but are quelled by loyal friends and allies of the old king.

The first council of patriarchs from each of the eight houses is formed, along with a single member taken from the common folk, a ironmonger from Destin Towers by the name of Barth the Black.
