The windswept plains of the Heartlands bathed in the hot blood of fools.
About
The Red Sky War was the most recent conflict to splash the grasses of Lythran. Ending just 26 years before the Tourney at Blessenmere, this brutal struggle is fresh in the memories of those alive today.
Supposedly orchestrated by a collective of Westmerk Royalists that rejected Gustav II's Proclamation in 445 AUE, the goal of the insurrection was to supplant the Eolder Council with Armenius of Westmerk, a young and favourable returning 'prince'. Announced as the son of Gustav II's brother Dietrich, and therefore the final heir to the Westmerk line. His opposers reject this notion, asserting fact that he was a fraud who saught only power and wrought chaos upon a peaceful land.
What followed was the bloodiest four-year conflict in living memory, that scholars and commoners alike have since dubbed The Red Sky War.
Countless lives were lost, lineages ended, towns razed and looted; and the windswept plains of the Heartlands were bathed in the hot blood of fools.
Beginnings.
In 471 AUE, mirroring the arrival of Laethmar Moras himself, a young and noble Arminius of Westmerk arrived on the shores of Old Teres. He was greeted by a congragation of Lesser and Noble Houses, with Gruffydd Edewyn of House Edewyn at their helm.
In the years prior, allies of Dietrich and Armenius had spread rumours of a coming hero, and sown seeds of discontent against the Eolder Council.
There at Baerhurst mustered an impressive army of men-at-arms, knights, lords and commoners alike, all to witness the coronation and blessings to make King Arminius I, True King of Lythran.
The Eolder Council had learned of the amassing since their arrival outside the Teresian Town and had called all banners loyal to the last wishes of the last True King. They were to prepare for war.
Key Battles.
The Battle of Destin
The first major battle of the Red Sky War, where the forces of Briarhill met Athran and Edewyn clashed and Jeremiah of Briarhill was killed.
The Battle of Whitewater Bridge
Before arriving at Lustrkeep
The Republic had much defence in the heartlands to stop him getting to Lustrkeep where he could legitemise himself, with great camps hosting many armies.
As the royalists approached however, the trees and grasses were set ablaze, driving the republic back, painting the sky red during the day due to the smoke/fire and during the night due to the Beast Moon.
This carved a black path to Lythran for Laethmar, the smoke blowing away from him in his advance.
The pushing attack and concealed flanks allowed Armenius to take charge and crush any opposition. It is said that he slew thirty men in combat, a living embodiement of each of the Eight Saints.
Seige of Barrington Bay
Viktor and Meridus Athran killed.
Battle Blackbail
Westmerk betrayed by Undertree
The Battle of Salted Wood
Gruffydd slain in combat by Solomon Briarhill
Briarhill later died of his wounds
Resolution.
While some saw the grassy blazes and red moon that marked Armenius' arrival and most crushing victory
