Notes on language choice for characters

Detail how Player Characters may choose languages during character creation.


Lythic

History

Nearly all of Lythran speak Lythic. With the exception of remote clans that predate the empire as well as those native to the Heartwilds and the Dwarvern Honorium.

Spoken by

  • The majority of the population of Lythran, as well as the major trading companies from the other continents.

Duervin

History

  • Duervin is the language of the dwarves, spoken long before humans came to the continent of Lythran and capable of travelling through rock and ice when spoken at the right pitch and tone.

  • Duervin is spoken primarily by Mountain and Deep Dwarves, but Hill Dwarves still have a natural affinity for it, even if it is not their birth tongue.

  • Duerv, primarily those who live in the Honorium, but many Hill Dwarves still keep up the language and many customs from their home.

Wyrmtongue

History

Wyrmtongue is the birth language of the Wyrmborn, but there are some variations between Chromatic, Metallic and Lapiatric cultures.

Elvish

History

Steeped in tradition and as fractured as the elven races themselves, Elvish is the Lythic name for the many related dialects of the Elven states of Ñawpakachi. These dialects include Salic, of the river people

Rüt

History

Rüt is the language of the Heartwilds, dating back to the conquest as when the wild-folk went into hiding, needing to band together to survive, they found themselves at odds. Those who cannot communicate cannot survive. Much like the roots of the wilderness knotting together to form one cohesive being; Rüt was made to bind these races together as one.

Gnomic

History

Due to the secluded nature of the early tribes of Gnomes who emigrated from Thësos, they had the need to form their own language, still spoken (albeit mostly as tradition) today.

  • Gnome, but mostly those who live in secluded colonies or used as greetings/during ceremony.

Avian

History

The squawk-like chittering that makes up Avian is hard (but not impossible) for outsiders to replicate. This makes it a rather secretive and suspicious languages between the Avian people and the other races.

Herpëtoic

History

The Herpetonese peoples all share varieties of Herpetoic as their birth tongue. Varieties range widely across the harsh dry tones of Crocodyl communes to the booming and musical tones of the Anuran tongue.

Orcen

History

Orken is the ancient tongue of the Ork people. This language predates even Rut as it was borne long before the Wild-Folk had to band together and hide.

It is deep and reverberating to carry well over the great plains that they once ruled.

Solunic

History

The Goblins of Eária speak Solunic, a tongue that shifts and changes depending on the seasons and the setting and rising of the sun over their homeland.

Other Languages

Histories

Other languages exist throughout Azure, spoken by ancient Wyrms, Giants and Aberrations beyond the imagination of common folk. These languages have not been mapped or understood by Lythranic Scribes and so are largely unknown.
