Chintayatu / Siren

"The high, thrilling song of the Sirens will transfix him, lolling there in their meadow, round them heaps of corpses rotting away, rags of skin shriveling on their bones."

Homer

Prophets of the deep. Buddhist.

Quick Look

Magic

  • Sirens converse with Spirits so as to soothsay, prophesize, and collate information they should otherwise have no access to.

  • As Sirens build up reputation for telling truths, they may develop some ability to alter fate as Spirits begin to trust their words unconditionally.

  • Oftentimes, Mortals feel compelled to seek Siren-songs, as they promise to convey impossible truths.

The Sirens are a race of water-dwelling Mortals who fall under the influence of Khei Lai / Winter.

Morbidly obsessed with death, many Sirens spend decades upon decades collating predictions about their own ends. They're willing to share, though most can never stop listening.

An ancient predecessor to the Siren race were some of the first to form from Spirits, and as such were the first to witness Mortal death. Terrified, these predecessors vowed to learn all there was to know on the topic.

Largely unaffected by the advent of the organized society, the Sirens simply continued in their pursuits. Inexplicably, an occasional Human and Elven sailor would seek out the Siren-colonies in pursuit of knowledge.

Society

Though they live under the ocean, many Sirens occasionally venture to land-based societies in order to disseminate knowledge and observe death.

Appearance

Notes

  • Slippery, smooth bodies. Near-impossible to hold onto.

  • Supremely long hair.

    • If hair ever fully dries, the Siren will die instantaneously.
