Character Creation
History & Personality
The most important aspects of your character are their history and personality. There are no rules for this, so go wild! It's a good idea to ask your Conductor all about the Universe you play in or ask them for reading material on the subject. Things that can be of particular interest for building your history are the world's factions and cultures.
Archetypes
If you want a balanced character without having to dig into every single gameplay option, it is recommended to choose an Archetype from the Universe you're playing in. Archetypes are pre-made character molds that are built around a certain type of gameplay. They also provide some information to what kind of characters are possible in this Universe.
If you opt for an Archetype, you are still free to imagine your character's personality, history, and appearance. An Archetype only dictates how you interact with the rules of the game.
Customization
If you want full control over your character's gameplay options, however, you can customize them from the start. It's as easy as following these steps:
Step 1
Each character starts out with the following:
5 Endurance Limit
2 Base Focus
1 Competence Die
1 Allround Die
Step 2
Choose 2 Skills to be competent in. Being competent in a Skill allows you to roll both your Allround Dice and Competence Dice for that Skill, which increases your chance of success!
Step 3
Pick one:
Add 2 to your Endurance Limit. This makes you more resistant.
Choose 2 additional Skills to be competent in.
Learn 1 new Power. This expands your tactical options in special ways.
Add 1 to Allround Die. This gives you more control over Skills and Powers.
Step 4
Pick one:
Add 1 to your Endurance Limit.
Add 2 to your Base Focus. This gives you more resources to spend on special effects.
Add 2 Competence Dice. This gives you a higher chance of success for Skills you are competent in.
Add 1 Power Die. This gives you more control over Powers you've learned.
Step 5
Pick one:
Add 1 to your Endurance Limit.
Add 2 to your Base Focus.
Add 2 Competence Dice.
Add 1 Power Die.
Choose 1 additional Skill to be competent in.
Step 6
Choose 2 Traits.
Let It Simmer
And voila! Your character is now practically ready to be played. Don’t be afraid to think the whole thing over a couple of times, going back and forth between your backstory, personality, occupation and character creation is part of a healthy process.
At any point before starting to play the game, you can think of a name and appearance to go along with your character. Make sure to let your Conductor know everything about your character, so that they can prepare challenges and weave your backstory into the upcoming sessions.
