Kings among elvenkind are chosen by their virtues that, often over many hundreds of years, have come to be viewed as great wisdom.

They could be considered the counterparts of Drâihari Divines.

It's not uncommon for a king's children to take his or her place (as they, after all, often had an excellent teacher) though it's as often the case for another individual of high regard to take on the role in the case of the king's death or displacement.

During times of war, one of the vale's Elvenkings are chosen by council to be the Asradurun, or celestial-sun king and supreme source of wisdom.
