What is known is that the Elder Fathom is a being that desires to create but cannot manipulate the Aether of Asra to seed its own creations. Instead, it can only change other creatures to resemble what it desires in children of its own.

It is believed to reside somewhere in the deepest recesses of the sea; Tangled completely in the rock and stone of the world with its body even breaching parts of the Hraen.

It speaks in tones only audible in water; With its children, the Ulythia, hearing its voice clearest near the sea.
