Veritorum

"Truth is a Scalpel, Not a Shield. Let Us Cut to the Bone."

While a Venator might hunt monsters, a Veritor is an Inquisitor focused specifically on matters of faith, doctrine, and internal corruption. They investigate heresy within Hyuron society and even within the Spectra itself. They are the internal affairs agents, feared for their piety and ruthless pursuit of ideological impurity. Their leader is known as the Veritarch.

Overview

If the Venatorium is the Imperia's sword, the Veritorum is its soul-searching gaze. It is the quieter, more insular, and arguably more dreaded branch of the Holy Inquisitorum. Its agents, the Veritorix, do not hunt monsters of flesh and claw, but monsters of thought and faith. They are the keepers of ideological purity, moving silently through all strata of Hyuron society, from the lowest hive worker to the highest echelons of the Spectra itself. To be noticed by a Veritor is to have the foundation of your life and faith placed under a merciless microscope.

Mandate & Jurisdiction

The Veritorum's mandate is the spiritual and ideological security of the Hyuron Imperia. Their jurisdiction is boundless but focused on the internal. They are empowered to investigate:

  • Heresy and doctrinal deviation from Spectra dogma.

  • Corruption within any Imperial or religious institution.

  • Unsanctioned or rogue Saiachus activity.

  • Sedition, political conspiracy, and threats to the theocratic order.

  • The spread of forbidden knowledge or heretical texts.

Methodology & Operations

Where a Venator uses a blade, a Veritor uses words, logic, and fear. Their methods are subtle and psychological. A Veritor's investigation may begin with a quiet audit of planetary or national records and end in a stark interrogation room where carefully constructed theological arguments and psychological pressure are used to dismantle a subject's certainty and expose their hidden heresies. They are masters of debate, infiltration, and rooting out the deepest secrets. While they have armed retinues, their greatest weapon is the absolute authority of their office and the terror it inspires.

Structure & Titles

  • The Veritarch: The supreme head of the Veritorum, reporting only to the two Dichopts of the Spectra. Their identity is often a closely guarded secret.

  • Veritor: The title of a full Inquisitor of this order. They often work alone or in small, discreet cells, wielding immense authority wherever they go.

Relationship with Other Orders

The Veritorum's relationship with its sister order is tense and complex. They view the Venatorium as a necessary but blunt instrument, often spiritually lax and too concerned with the physical world. The Venatorium, in turn, often sees the Veritorum as paranoid, politically-motivated zealots who could declare anyone a heretic on a whim. However, their paths often cross. A Venator might uncover a monster-worshipping cult and be forced to turn the case over to the Veritorum, much to their chagrin. Conversely, a Veritor pursuing a heretic may be assigned a Pursuivant from the Venatorium for protection or to help track their quarry if they attempt to flee into the wild, an arrangement neither agent typically enjoys.
