“Come, traveler, rest. Let the quiet, somber beauty seep into your bones. Let your present worries slip away, and lose yourself to memory and reflection.”
The Plane of Somberness
At A Glance
Function: Shadowfell is oriented towards stillness, reflection, and memory.
Rulers: The Shaded Pantheon, ruled by Monet
Inhabitants: Shadow Fey, Undead
Description
Shadowfell exists in a muted light akin to that of an eternal dusk, marking the sky with a reminder of what has passed. Many cast Shadowfell as The Feywild's dark, sinister twin, forgetting the faults and deceptive dangers of The Feywild and the natural wonders of Shadowfell.
Where The Feywild is an overwhelming plane of overabundance and distractions, Shadowfell is muted and still. The air here is heavy, the ground soft and damp with decay, inhabitants somber and reflective. Actions here are taken with deliberation and purpose.
Shadowfell's somberness does not mean it is a place of misery, just as the Feywild's ecstasy does not make is a place of happiness. Shadowfell inhabitants feel happiness, but they are deliberate in what they value, savoring a meal to determine its taste where a Wild Fey might feast until they burst, sitting in contemplation with an art piece to ponder its meaning and merits where a Wild Fey might hardly give pause.

Location:
The Shadowfell is one of the innermost planes, and was once thought to be the final plane to come into existence with its Feywild sibling. It, with The Feywild, is surrounded by The Elemental Planes.
Neighbors:
The Shadowfell borders The Feywild, where the opposing forces of the two planes clash. In a sense, The Shadowfell lies below the Feywild. One can reach the Feywild through the roots of the Feywild's greatest trees which break through the dark stony floors of Shadowfell.
One can also travel from The Shadowfell to The Material Plane or to The Elemental Planes through natural portals where the borders run together and weaken. However, such natural portals are unstable and ever shifting, and one is more likely to stumble through one by accident than to find one in a time of need.
The Shadowfell has a strong historical connection to The Material Plane, as Monet created the first humanoid race, Shadar-kai.
Inhabitants:
The Shadow Fey of Shadowfell despise the Feywild's Wild Fey for their indulgence of fleeting desires and distractions, preferring to live serious, somber lives.
Shadowfell was home to the first Undead, the result of Shadow Fey refusing the change of death in favor of the unchanging, steadfast nature of undeath.
Rulers:
Monet, God of Memory, rules over Shadowfell with their demigods.
Origin
The Outer Planes are made of conceptual energy, and the Elemental Planes of material elements. When the conceptual energy of The Outer Planes and the material elements of the Elemental Planes leaked down into the void of emptiness they surrounded, the Feywild and Shadowfell were born.
