Basic Information
In the war against free will, Mechanical Soldiers sometimes find themselves infused with the energy of Pandemonium and tainted with free will. Dracar and their Mechanical Soldiers seek to destroy these abominations, but some escape Mechanus to live another day. Most Tainted Soldiers find Pandemonium far too jarring and flee to The Material Plane to begin their lives. These survivors are referred to as "Warforged".
It would be an oversight to claim that all Warforged are Tainted Soldiers. On occasion, a piece of scrap metal might be altered by the presence of a magical phenomena and gain sentience, or a spell gone awry creates an Animated creature of unusual permanence and will, or a god blesses an inventor to create life, or someone manages to transfer their soul to a mechanical vessel and escape death. But most warforged are Tainted Soldiers, and they share similar characteristics regardless.
Relations of other Races
Tainted Soldiers are despised by Mechanus's celestials as abominations. Pandemonium's celestials often treat them with kindness and compassion, eager to help these individuals find freedom, and helping them on their way to new homes.
Warforged from Mechanus tend to seek out longer lived races to form bonds with, intimidated by the fast-paced, quickly changing lives of those who likely won't even live a century.

Ability Score Increase (Typical)
Your Constitution score increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.
Age
Warforged can, with proper maintenance, live indefinitely, and, barring that, transfer their souls to a new vessel should they fall into disrepair. Those from Mechanus have the sturdiest souls, being Celestials, but even they eventually find themselves growing weary, and will release their souls to Reaper to be refreshed and born anew.
Creature Type
All warforged are Constructs, and most are Celestials, but a few may instead be considered Humanoids, depending on their creation. Most adventuring warforged have had their vessels modified to make them receptive to healing magics and otherwise able to be affected by spells and abilities which typically do not affect Constructs.

Myths and Lore
Lore
A Tainted Celestial which dies in The Outer Planes will have its order and chaos aligned energies pulled apart to return to Mechanus and Pandemonium, respectively. But a Warforged which dies on The Material Plane finds itself a part of this plane, its soul splintering apart as a Humanoid's would, the pieces merging with other humanoid soul shards and joining No'vel's cycle of rebirth.
