Description

In a world of isolated continents divided by un-sailable oceans, Sethven uses the wonders of teleportation magic and eccentric mages to brings together individuals from across continents for one sole purpose- to study at Sethven University of Magic.

Of course, study is hardly the only reason one might find themselves in the city. Residents might be natives, descended from parents who chose to stay in Sethven rather than return to their home countries. Or there on work visas, serving as adventurers for The Dragons' Den.

Primary Features

Government

The government of Sethven is known as The Magician's Counsel, made up of the group of elite mages who ensure Sethven is able to exist. They are undoubtedly the most powerful individuals on Sethven.

Defence

Sethven might be isolated from the outside world, but it is not free from threats. Dangers come from the oceans or the skies- a great dragon looking to make the city's riches into its hoard, a seething kraken seeking the coastal city's demise, or ghost pirates attacking fishermen. Not to speak of the island's dangers and mysteries, native beasts or extraplanar wanders.

Commerce

Sethven is able to supply itself with food through farms and fishing, but the small island must import any non-renewable resources. The city has an agreement with many of the world's major countries- in exchange for resources supplied, they will permit a student to study at Sethven University of Magic.

Organizations

Brief synopsis

Crime

Sethven is a city with a strikingly low tolerance for crime. Some might consider Sethven a dressed up totalitarian dictatorship, others claim that the extensiveness of the settlement's policing measures are overexaggerated, and others still that drastic measures are necessary for Sethven's preservation.

Civics

Brief synopsis

Culture

Sethven brings in a mixture of cultures from all across the world. But the city's residents all share a sense of wonder at the arcane world, a drive towards knowledge and understanding, and a willingness to fight and struggle to achieve their goals.

Because continental division means that each continent has its own Common Tongue, the Common language of En'sura is Sylvan, the tongue of The Feywild and The Shadowfell, chosen because the nearness of the Shadow Wild to The Material Plane makes Sylvan a slightly more common language as far as extraplanar languages go.

Education

Sethven University of Magic is undoubtedly the most prominent magical university in the world. Most who attend the university are wizards, but all with magical gifts and goals are welcome, whether their magic comes from study, divine blessing, extraplanar influence, or elsewhere. A few students even have no spellcasting abilities whatsoever, yet attend in order to study runes that they might become great magic item crafters.

Religion

With individuals coming from all over, Sethven has a wealth of religious diversity. The Archaic Pantheon, The Articulate Pantheon, and The Designated Pantheon are the most prominently worshipped.

Geography/Ecology

Sethven residents claim that Sethven has two seasons- rain season and storm season. Rain season enjoys moderate temperatures and the occasional glimpse of sunshine. Storm season is characterized by warm temperatures, violent storms, dangerous waves, and the ever-present risk of flash floods. The island's resident Bronze Dragon shields Sethven from the worst of these effects.

History

Documents regarding En'sura's early settlement and Sethven's initial construction are classified, available only to The Magician's Counsel.

From its earliest public record, Sethven's historical operation differs little from its modern day operation. There are some notable accounts of the more dangerous threats the city has faced in the records, coming close to destruction once or twice.
