Description

The Wracking Sea is the name given to the ocean surrounding the island of En'sura, named for its tumultuous waters. The region is nigh unpassable, ships which stray farther than a few miles from En'sura being overcome by monstrous waves or, even worse, by the actual monsters who lurk in the depths. Due to the dangerous water, the only way in or out of the region is through the closely guarded teleportation circle on Sethven. No one knows where on En The Wracking Sea is.

These natural defenses are precisely the reason that En'sura was chosen as the site of Sethven, to protect the city's elite magic academy from attack or invasion by those who would wish to use its resources for their own ends.

Primary Features

Cultural/Religious

Those who traverse the waters of The Wracking Sea pray to Ursula, Whist, and Volt, the elemental gods of Water, Air, and Lightning respectively, for mercy and protection when they journey out onto the seas.

Economic

The Wracking Sea is a vital source of food for En'sura's residents, its waters filled with fishermen hard at work. The sea monsters that hunt the water can also be sold for valuable parts.

Military/Defensive

The Stormborder forms a natural defensive barrier, but residents of the region must still contend with dangerous sea monsters and aberrations.

The Stormborder

The Stormborder marks where the dangerous waters around En'sura become the impassable border that keeps outsiders out and inhabitants in. It forms a rough circle around En'sura, about 11 miles in radius from the island's center. It consits of thicks fog, ever present storm clouds, cracking lightning, and a hundred-foot-high waves.

History

The Wracking Sea has been a small, semi-hospitable region encompassing En'sura as long back as the records go. The small protective region probably is not natural, but so little is known about En's un-sailable seas that no one can say for certain.
