Resting
Long rest
PCs can only benefit from a long rest in a “Safe Haven” described below. Sleeping outside of safe havens is still necessary to avoid incurring levels of exhaustion.
Long Rest Benefits outside of Havens
Do not gain levels of exhaustion
Regaining Item charges
Items regain charges each in-game dawn, rather than through long rests.
Short Rest
PCs can benefit from a short rest through spending the night in a hex while under the protection of faeglow logs while consuming rations. Some exceptions may be made for longer dungeons, where short rests can be taken in protected spaces over the course of an hour.
Safe Haven
A safe haven will be a place where the PCs don’t need to set guard, have shelter, and some level of comfort (i.e., food, and warmth). These are the only places where PCs can benefit from a long rest. These will typically be well-known locations on the map, and be important places to protect should they come under threat.Â
Long Rest Benefits in Havens
Remove 1 level of exhaustion, and do not gain any exhaustion levels
Regain all lost hit points
Regains spent hit dice (up to the number of dice equal to half of the character's total number of them, min of one die)
Regain all spent spell slots
Regain all spent long rest and short rest abilities
Camping and Cooking
When the characters camp (typically to short rest), they can spend firewood and use their flint to allow the cooking of uncooked rations.
They can use cook’s utensils that they are proficient with to turn up to 8 uncooked rations into standard rations automatically.
Without such tools/proficiency, a character can turn 1 uncooked ration per hour into a standard ration with a DC 10 survival check. Failing this check ruins the ration.Â
Players can also engage in downtime activities such as herbalism
