The Jarldom of The Nornathi
/

Fate and the Seers: While the Jarls hold power through their strength and leadership, the true controllers of the kingdom's destiny are the Seers. These wise individuals have the ability to peer into the future and interpret the fates of the Nornathi people. When a child is born, their fate is read and recorded by the Seers. This prophecy dictates much of their life’s path.

On their 13th name day, the children are brought to the Seers' Circle for a significant rite of passage. Here, their fate is revealed in the form of intricate tattoos. The length and complexity of these tattoos signify the importance and greatness of their future. The more elaborate the design, the more significant their life is destined to be. Conversely, a short or nonexistent tattoo is a dire omen, indicating a less significant future.

Raising the Young: Nornathi children are only raised by their parents for the first 12 years of their life. After that, they are collectively nurtured by the community. Children are divided based on their observed tendencies. Those displaying tenacity and courage are raised by the warriors, honing their skills and preparing for a life of combat and leadership. Those who are calmer and more focused are raised by the homesteaders, learning the essential skills to support and sustain their communities.

On their 20th name day, a crucial ceremony takes place. If they have proven themselves worthy, they are welcomed into the clan and given a name earned through their actions and character. Names are not passed down by blood but are earned through deeds and honor. Those who do not meet the clan’s standards are sent out into the world to make their own name.
