Helgir

"A giant, aye. He cared more for the people of Drydale than the king himself!"

Description

Helgir is the name given to the mythical frost giant that used to inhabit the region of Drydale. According to legends, Helgir was large, as large as a mountain, but was a gentle giant who protected the people of Drydale. It is said his mother was the giantess who created the white moon Minas from rocks of mountains, so that all could see during the night with moonlight and be safe.

He is also credited by believers for having created the Moonlit River. During a time of drought, it is said Helgir punched the hills and drew water, ending the drought and saving the land.

Helgir is said to have left to his ancestral home in the Wildlands to inherit his father's kingdom, in lands far beyond knowledge. The moonlit river is now all that remains of his kindness.

Faith, Goals and Structure

Many of the worshippers of Helgir perceive him as a father figure, and seek to carry on his legacy of taking care of the land he protected. Many of his shrines are adorned with runic writings in Giant.

While there is no organized structure or institution for the veneration of Helgir, his shrines can be found all over the region of Old Drydale, usually in locations surrounded by nature. Believers usually make small trips to these shrines to leave offerings of flowers, food and other trinkets they value as a thank you to Helgir.

His worship and values are similar to that of Amalia, and so, the religion is tolerated by the Empire and thrives in the region, making it the majority faith for the locals.
