Flaws

Flaws are crippling traits that player characters can have that increase the difficulty of their adventure. Flaws are optional.

When choosing a background for your player character, you can choose to add one Flaw to your character. When you do so, you also gain a General feat of your choice.

Effect

Frail

  • Your Strength score is reduced by 2.

  • When you are reduced to 0 hit points, you immediately fail a Death saving throw.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Poor Defense

  • Your Strength score is reduced by 2.

  • During the first round of combat, all enemies have advantage on attack rolls against you.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Puny

  • Your Strength score is reduced by 2.

  • You have disadvantage on all Strength saving throws or saving throws to avoid being grappled.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Weakness

  • Your Strength score is reduced by 2.

  • Your carry capacity is reduced by 7.5 kg.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Asthmatic

  • Your Dexterity score is reduced by 2.

  • When you gain a level of Exhaustion, you gain two levels instead.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Clumsy

  • Your Dexterity score is reduced by 2.

  • Getting up from Prone costs all movement speed. When you roll a 1, you fall Prone.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Deaf

  • Your Dexterity score is reduced by 2.

  • You are always under the effects of the Deafened condition.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Lame

  • Your Dexterity score is reduced by 2.

  • You can't take the Dash action.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Lumbering

  • Your Dexterity score is reduced by 2.

  • Your movement speed is reduced by 3 meters.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Insomniac

  • Your Constitution score is reduced by 2.

  • Resting doesn't reduce your Exhaustion level.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Sickly

  • Your Constitution score is reduced by 2.

  • You are vulnerable to Poison damage.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Blind

  • Your Intelligence score is reduced by 2.

  • You are always under the effects of the Blinded condition.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Head in the Clouds

  • Your Intelligence score is reduced by 2.

  • You have disadvantage on all Initiative rolls and Concentration saving throws.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Illiterate

  • Your Intelligence score is reduced by 2.

  • You can't read or write in any language.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Impatient

  • Your Intelligence score is reduced by 2.

  • You have disadvantage on all Intelligence ability and skill checks.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Overly Cautious

  • Your Intelligence score is reduced by 2.

  • During the first round of combat, you can only use an Action, Bonus Action, or move.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Aggressive

  • Your Wisdom score is reduced by 2.

  • You have disadvantage on all attack rolls during the first round of combat. Additionally, when you fail a Persuasion check, it counts as a failed Intimidation check.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Animal Animosity

  • Your Wisdom score is reduced by 2.

  • Animals dislike you. You suffer disadvantage on all Animal Handling skill checks. Additionally animals and beasts choose you as a target in preference of other targets and gain advantage on attack rolls made against you.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Claustrophobic

  • Your Wisdom score is reduced by 2.

  • When you are grappled, you are also paralysed.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Craven

  • Your Wisdom score is reduced by 2.

  • You start the first round of combat Frightened. You have disadvantage on all rolls made to resist being Frightened.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Naive

  • Your Wisdom score is reduced by 2.

  • You have disadvantage on Insight checks and saving throws against trickery or mind control effects.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Abrasive Personality

  • Your Charisma score is reduced by 2.

  • You have disadvantage on all skill checks to make another creature non-hostile, or to convince a creature to help or join your party.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Arrogant

  • Your Charisma score is reduced by 2.

  • You have disadvantage on all social skill checks against creatures outside of your social strata.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Blatant

  • Your Charisma score is reduced by 2.

  • You have disadvantage on all Deception checks, and all creatures have advantage on Wisdom saving throws against you.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.

Mute

  • Your Charisma score is reduced by 2.

  • You are always under the Silenced condition, and you can't speak.

  • You gain a General Feat of your choice.
