Smith's Tools Crafting

How to craft using Smith's Tools

Using Smith's Tools, the player is able to use different metals, called Ingots, to create weapons, armor or shields. They can also craft Ingots from ores, which they can gather in the environment or find during their adventures.

In order to craft using these tools, the player must also have access to an Anvil or Workbench to craft weapons or armor, or a Forge to craft a Metal Ingot. To craft while travelling, the player needs to own a Travelling Forge, a collection of tools in a cart that can be pulled by a horse, a mule, an ox or similar animals.

The Crafting Process

When creating an item using Smith's Tools, the player can craft Ingots; and then use these Ingots to craft Weapons or Armor.

Ingots are crafted in 10 minutes using a forge, requiring a DC to craft. (Similar to Alchemy or Herbalism)
Failing the check consumes the ingredients and produces no ingot.

Weapons and Armor are crafted using Points. Each weapon or armor has a number of Points cost. A player may spend 4 hours (which can be during rests or downtime) of a day to roll a Smith's Tools check, adding the result as Points and accumulating them until they reach the required Points for the item.

  • For example: A battleaxe costs 30 points. Rolling a 15 on a Smith's Tools check during 4 hours would put the player 15 out of 30 to crafting it. When they reach 30, they finish the battleaxe.

Rules for Crafting Armor

  • Crafting specific armor qualities requires a minimum level of proficiency, such as Proficiency being required to craft Normal quality armor.

  • The material costs required are used by the player when they first start crafting.

  • Each time a player rolls a Smith's Tools check over the course of 4 hours, they progress to finishing the armor by accumulating Points.

  • Each armor can have up to a maximum of 3 properties. (see below)

Armor Properties

Armor Properties

  • When a player decides to start crafting a piece of armor, they can decide to add up to 3 properties to it.

  • Each property added requires additional materials that must be used before crafting begins.

  • Adding negative properties requires no materials, but reduces crafting time by reducing Points cost.
