"The world calls this place a containment facility. I call it an anchor. We are the only thing keeping the world from being pulled under by the weight of what's waking up inside these kids." - Doctor Alistair Gaines, Director of Ontological Studies

Overview

The Anvil is a heavily fortified, ocean-based installation constructed as a multi-level, vertically stacked facility designed for the secure containment, monitoring, and deployment of Anomalies. Located far off the eastern United States seaboard and hidden from commercial satellite mapping, the structure rises from the sea atop a reinforced foundation anchored deep into the ocean floor. With each descending level, the diameter of the internal footprint increases—making the lowest levels the most expansive and structurally supported.

Access to The Anvil is strictly regulated. Arrival is possible via VTOL aircraft landing at one of the two armored hangar bays on the facility’s main deck, or through encrypted deep-sea transport using stealth-rated submersibles. Regardless of method, all personnel and Anomalies are funneled through Level 1—dedicated to security screening and decontamination—before gaining access to any further operational zones.

The outer structure of The Anvil is comprised of advanced naval alloys and sensor-baffling panels. Its overall aesthetic is brutalist and geometric, with sloped external plating, minimal lighting, and recessed exterior platforms designed for rapid deployment or lockdown. Interior corridors are modular and standardized across all levels, designed for functionality and rapid containment protocols. Internal transport occurs via a central elevator core and reinforced maintenance shafts; lateral movement is limited and closely monitored. Each level of The Anvil serves a distinct operational purpose, from research and containment to habitation and strategic oversight. While environmental conditions and layouts vary between sections, all levels maintain redundant power, filtration, and life-support systems. The highest-clearance zones are intentionally isolated, with limited network access and independent lockdown protocols.

Facility-wide systems are managed by a central operations node located on Level 6. While much of the infrastructure is automated through AI, human oversight remains critical—particularly in matters concerning active deployment, Anomaly management, and incident response.

Due to the sensitive nature of operations conducted within The Anvil, detailed schematics, personnel rosters, and clearance protocols are classified and disseminated on a need-to-know basis.
