Malcolm Graves never stood a chance at a normal life. From childhood, he was a target—bullied at school for being quiet and strange, tormented at home by a father who saw weakness in his son’s gentle nature. The other kids called him teriible names because he was pale, frail, and seemed to fade into the background.

On his seventeenth birthday, Malcolm’s tormentors crossed a line. A group of boys—the same ones who had made his life a living hell for years—cornered him in a derelict alley after school. They beat him bloody, laughing as he crumpled to the pavement, his ribs cracking under their kicks. As his vision blurred, something inside him snapped.

A cold, liquid darkness—thick as oil—erupted from his chest, seemingly from nowhere. It coated his body like a second skin, sealing his wounds in an instant. Then, with anger and hatred in his eyes, Malcolm struck. Shadowy tendrils lashed out, impaling his attackers mid-laugh. Their screams were cut short as the darkness pulled, draining the life from them in seconds. When it was over, the alley was silent.

Malcolm spent the remainder of his childhood years trying his hardest to keep his powers hidden, practicing to control it behind closed doors whenever possible. He avoided people and confrontation as much as possible and later became a bit of a recluse because of it.

In his later years he became quite adept at using his powers, able to shape the shadows within himself, then manifest them on the outside in any way he desired. Malcolm seemingly has complete control over the shadows within.

Malcolm spent his evenings patrolling the streets from the very same shadows that evil lurks, hoping to rid the city of one more bully by any means necessary. That was until he was approached by The Anvil. Not knowing what lied on the road ahead Malcolm joined, hoping for a greater sense of purpose.
