Far beneath the waves, in the pressing depths of the ocean, dwell the tritons—a noble race born of the sea. Their skin gleams in shades of blue and green, shimmering like the water itself. They are the guardians of the deep, protectors of coral kingdoms and submerged ruins, where ancient secrets are whispered by the tides. With webbed hands and feet, the tritons move effortlessly through the depths, as familiar with the ocean’s secrets as land-dwellers are with the air they breathe.

Tritons have long watched over the boundaries between the sea and the surface world, acting as wardens against the strange and dangerous creatures that lurk in the darkest trenches. Though their lives are steeped in the lore of the deep, they sometimes rise to the surface, carrying with them the wisdom and pride of their oceanic heritage. Tritons view themselves as the first line of defense against the horrors of the deep, and their arrival on land often heralds both a warning and an opportunity to unite against greater threats. To encounter a triton is to meet a being shaped by the vast and unyielding power of the sea.

Triton Traits

Age. Tritons reach maturity around age 15 and can live up to 200 years.

Size. Tritons are slightly shorter than humans, averaging about 5 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.

Amphibious. You can breathe air and water, and have a swim speed of 30 feet. You can Dash as a bonus action while swimming.

Control Ice and Water. You can cast fog cloud with this trait. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the ice knife spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the wall of water spell with it. Once you cast any of these spells with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. 

Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).

Emissary of the Sea. You can communicate simple ideas to any Beast, Elemental, or Monstrosity with a swimming speed. They can understand the meaning of your words, and you can understand them through simple emotions. You have advantage on all Charisma checks you make to influence them if they are not hostile towards you.

Guardian of the Depths. You are adapted to the extreme pressures of the frigid ocean depths and have resistance to cold damage.
