Introduction
Fishing is a healthy and enjoyable way to spend time in the beautiful wilderness of Gevadun. Enjoying the splendor of nature, created by the divine, is a rewarding experience, especially when shared with friends or family. While it may be tempting to grab a fishing pole and head straight down to the water, experienced anglers know that preparation is key for a successful fishing trip. Anglers need the right equipment and bait, and with a bit of luck, they can catch some impressive fish from Gevadun's waterways and have a good time doing it.
Bait:
Anglers require bait to catch fish, along with their fishing tackle. Options like seeds, cheese, and bread are all shelf-stable foods that can serve as effective bait. Various types of insects and even scraps of meat can also function as bait in the wild waters of Gevadun. Regardless of the source, bait will effectively fulfill its purpose. Some vendors offer specialty baits that are either magical or explicitly designed for the waters they are meant to be used in. (+1 bait may be available at apothecaries, general stores, and docks, usually costing between 30 and 50 Phoenixes a piece.)
Weather:
A good angler knows not only where to fish but also when to fish. Depending on the species, fish can be caught in the morning or at night. However, weather conditions can impact the success of a fishing session. While some anglers fish regardless of the weather, it's essential to recognize that conditions can significantly impact the quality of the experience.
Here's how different weather conditions affect fishing:
A typical sunny day offers no bonuses to fishing.
A rainy day adds a +1 to your fishing efforts.
A very cloudy day gives a -1 penalty to fishing.
Any type of inclement weather will subtract a roll of a D6 from your fishing attempts.
Season:
Not all fish are eager to bite on bait throughout the year; some are best caught in their specific seasons. This varies by region, but generally, there are good and bad fishing seasons. While fishing out of season isn't necessarily unproductive, targeting fish during their peak seasons significantly increases your chances of landing whoppers.
Understanding how the months can be broken down into seasons is essential.
Twist Sprig, Mid-Spring, and Gold Sky are the Spring months.
Sun Point, High Summer, and Fires End are the Summer months.
Fallsberth, Harvest, and Lights End are the Fall Months.
Snow Drift, Icy Hearth, and Frost Moon are the Winter months.
Here’s a breakdown of various fishing locations and their seasonal advantages:
Bail: Spring +1, Summer +2, Fall +0, Winter -1
Phoenix: Spring +1, Summer +1, Fall +1, Winter +1
Sindare: Spring +1, Summer +1, Fall +0, Winter -1
Felder: Spring +0, Summer +1, Fall +0, Winter -2
The Shattered Peaks: Spring +0, Summer +1, Fall +0, Winter +1
The Ash Cleft: Spring -1, Summer -2, Fall -1, Winter +1

How to Fish (For Players)
You can go fishing if you have the necessary equipment, bait, thirty minutes of time, and a can-do attitude. To fish, you make a survival roll and add any applicable modifiers, such as the bait used, the weather conditions, your survival skill, and any other factors that may affect the outcome. Then, compare your total roll to the waterway's Difficulty Class (DC) where you are fishing. If your roll exceeds the DC, roll a D20 to determine what you have caught. Please note that you cannot reroll a fishing roll, fish more than twice a day, or receive assistance on the fishing roll. If you do catch a fish, one unit of bait will be used.
The Fish:
The type of fish you catch will be dictated by where you fish; the variety of fish in Gevadun varies in size, shape, properties, and the tactics required to catch them.
