Bestia Amicus

Overview

Bestia Amicus is the Tabaxi kingdom located in the southeastern corner of Praetoria, with its capital in the remarkable city of Alta Arbor, where towering trees support an impressive palace. The Tabaxi mindset isn’t suited for the complex social maneuvering typical of traditional politics, resulting in minimal internal political conflict within Bestia Amicus. Tabaxi society accepts that the most qualified individual should hold a position of authority, leading to a council of meritocrats governing the state. When meritocrats are unable to fulfill their duties, they actively seek out a worthy successor. Bestia Amicus is generally open to foreigners from outside Praetoria, but the Tabaxi have little interest in sharing their culture or learning about others.

Government Operation

The meritocrats of Bestia Amicus gather in Alta Arbor to discuss the kingdom's operations. These meritocrats come from diverse backgrounds and are assigned roles that align with their expertise. For instance, a renowned trader who becomes a meritocrat would be responsible for regulating trade with other kingdoms. They meet monthly to hold discussions, and due to the stable nature of the kingdom, they rarely need to enact significant legislation. When a meritocrat feels they can no longer continue in their role, they find a suitable replacement to take their position.

This straightforward system wouldn’t work for the other races, but the strange Tabaxi thrive under it. However, the government struggles with its political relations with other realms. Bestia Amicus maintains excellent relationships with the other two powers in Praetoria, but the Tabaxi's awkwardness makes it challenging to connect with delegates and ambassadors from Gevadun’s other nations.

Meritocrats: The meritocrats are the only true holders of power in Bestia Amicus, and their collective power controls the entire kingdom. They pass all laws and regulations, and when need be, they are the distributors of justice.

Military

Bestia Amicus produces many skilled warriors and tacticians but often relies on the support of other powers in Praetoria for protection. A meritocrat, who is an expert in tactics and combat, is usually appointed as the general of the Tabaxi armies in Bestia Amicus. Both the Triton and Leonin kingdoms send talented warriors to lead their respective foreign legions. Although Peccatores Regnum and Imperium Unitum are engaged in a fierce rivalry, they both view Bestia Amicus as a sort of “little brother.” This perception allows them to set aside their differences and dedicate significant resources to defending the Tabaxi kingdom.

War Meritocrat: The meritocrat who is best versed in warfare is placed in charge of Bestia Amicus’s military. They have complete control over the military and plan the nation's defense.

Savannah Guard: The Savannah Guard refers to the Leonin contingent of Bestia Amicus’s foreign legion. These warriors equip themselves and are led by a hand-chosen leader by the king of Peccatores Regnum.

Shore Guard: The Shore Guard is the Triton contingent of Bestia Amicus’s foreign legion. Legionnaires of Imperium Unitum are often sent to join the Shore Guard by their centurion if they are skilled in defensive tactics and combat.

Alta Arbors’s Dragoons: Alta Arbor’s Dragoons are the general soldiers of Bestia Amicus. They are skilled trackers and excel at running down routed enemies. They are well-trained and well-paid, but often poorly equipped.
