The Deep Astral Sea Entities

A Message in a Bottle from the Deep Astral Sea

The Chasm is not the only place where entities beyond the realm of humanity reside. The Deep Astral Sea is often thought of as an empty expanse where sailors get lost, but this is a misconception. In reality, the Deep Astral Sea is home to some of the most revered entities that are not divine. In certain ways, the Deep Astral Sea may be even more perilous than The Chasm, as travel between realms is common and occurs through this mysterious sea. The undertow can drag everything beneath the surface, and if you find yourself caught in the Deep Astral Sea, your soul is surrendered to the tides.

The Current (CE)

The Current is a mysterious entity that resides deep in The Deep Astral Sea, seeking to draw everything above into its depths. Worshippers of The Current, as well as devotees of the other entities from The Deep Astral Sea, aim to live by the ocean. The Current desires for the world above to sink beneath the waves, so its followers often set sail on ships intending to sink them and others to the ocean floor. The Current takes a twisted pleasure in watching the helpless being dragged below the surface. Sometimes, The Current's worshippers will gather large groups of people and send them adrift into the Astral Sea without an Astronomicon, leaving them to their grisly fate.

The unholy symbol of The Current is a wave, while its manifestation is a swirling mass of waves and currents that relentlessly batter the shores of Gevadun and the surrounding seas.

The Sovereign of Storms (CN)

The Sovereign of Storms is the king of thunder. When thunder crashes, lightning strikes, the wind whips through the seaboard, and clouds turn black, it signifies that the Sovereign of Storms is nearby. The nature of this entity remains a topic of debate; however, it is widely accepted that it is neither malicious nor benevolent. The Sovereign of Storms exists as the being that moves with the storms, or perhaps the storms follow it.

There are suspicions that the Sovereign may have played a role in The Era of Storms, but this is speculation. Among the entities of The Deep Astral Sea, the worshipers of the Sovereign are the fewest in number, yet they are fanatical in their devotion. Worship practices include sitting quietly to observe storms, regardless of their severity, feeding various types of seabirds, and offering small tithes or effigies as tribute before or after significant storms. It is unclear why anyone worships the Sovereign, as it has never been known to grant boons or respond to prayers, displaying utter indifference toward its followers.

The holy symbol of the Sovereign is a flying bird. The physical form of the Sovereign is often described as a massive osprey dwelling within storm clouds, so vast and awe-inspiring that it demands attention.

The Angler (CG)

The Angler is a benevolent entity known for helping sailors and fishermen in need. His intentions are good, as he has never been recorded as violent or malicious towards civilians. He rescues sailors lost at sea and brings them safely back to shore. Additionally, he offers advice to distressed mariners in their times of need, often changing their lives for the better. However, The Angler is the most disliked of the Astral Sea entities by the orthodox religions of the land because he harbors a deep hatred for The Ancient Dragons, The Pantheon of the Nine, and the Chasm Entities.

The reason for his animosity towards these entities is unknown, but it seems unwavering. He has been known to collaborate with The Current in attempts to sink vessels carrying significant amounts of Foul or worshipers of the Foul on board. This enmity has led some to view him as malicious, while others see him as a hero.

The unholy symbol associated with The Angler features three fish leaping from the water. In terms of appearance, he is often described as an old man wearing antiquated fishing clothing in a rowboat.
