The Thundering Tundra

Climate: Cold, Dry

Average Tempature Range: 05 - 60 F

The Thundering Tundra is a lowland that extends from The Craggy Highlands. This region features a few alpine forests but is predominantly characterized by frosted hills and tundras that are piercingly cold. Cold winds from the ocean to the north whip across the landscape, often creating brutal gusts that scour the entire region. Only the most resilient and hardy flora and fauna can survive in these harsh conditions. In the region, hardy trees and thickets provide food for mammals of all sizes as well as arctic fowl. The most common animals in the area include deer and boars. Notable predators are wolves and black bears, the latter of which can subsist solely on plants if the weather allows. During the summer months, some of the landscape thaws, transforming into a more hospitable environment. However, this respite lasts for only three short months before the cold winds return, freezing the landscape once again. The thawing period causes many frozen ponds and creeks to flow once more, spreading silt and other natural fertilizers across the ground, benefitting the hardy trees and plants.
