The Locals

In Praetoria, two distinct groups exist. One group consists of the fierce Leonin and Tabaxi clans, known for their hunting and survival skills. They have established settlements in both the plains and jungles. These feline folk are not only adept fighters but also brutal warriors, so it is advisable to stay on their good side. The other major inhabitants of Praetoria are the proud Tritons, a fish-like people who have colonized the entire ocean surrounding the land. They consider themselves stewards of the sea and hold honor in the highest regard. This emphasis on honor is a common trait shared by both groups; they are dedicated to preserving their reputations and would never act in a way that tarnishes their integrity.

Leonin

The mighty Leonin come from the savannahs and plains of Praetoria’s central continent. It is unclear whether they are a creation of The Pantheon of the Nine, but they possess abilities and characteristics similar to those of other races. These giant beings lead tribal lives, with most Leonin residing in small rural villages. Although the cities of Leonin and Tabaxi are large, they only account for a small percentage of the overall Leonin population. The Leonin are renowned hunters, and when each Leonin turns ten, their parents or guardians take them on a hunting expedition. During this journey, a shaman oversees rites that mark their transition into early adulthood. Combat is significant to the Leonin, as combat is essential to their culture.

Tabaxi:

The Tabaxi are a thrifty and resourceful people native to the jungles and forests of the greater Praetorian continent. They often experience social awkwardness and struggle to navigate interactions with others. Even among their Leonin relatives, who can be cumbersome in conversation, the Tabaxi typically feel out of place during social interactions. Within their social groups and families, they usually prefer solitude and engage little in conversation. Instead of participating in idle chit-chat, they prefer to share helpful information. Most Tabaxi dedicate themselves to nature or focus intently on their crafts. They tend to develop an interest in a profession or trade at a young age, becoming enamored with their work and showing little interest in anything else. When not working, they are curious explorers, constantly seeking new experiences in the natural world. Beyond these observable traits, little else is known about the Tabaxi. Upon discovering Praetoria, the Leonin and Triton were eager to share much about their civilizations and cultures. In contrast, the Tabaxi are more reclusive, preferring to keep to themselves and observe newcomers from a distance.

Triton:

The Triton are an imperious and amphibious people who were the first to establish an empire in Praetoria. They are naturally honorable and duty-driven, considering themselves stewards of the ocean. The Triton named all of Praetoria; while the Leonin and Tabaxi have their own native names for cities, places, and people, the Triton have declared their language to be dominant in the region. Their empire is called “Imperium Unitum,” which means “United Empire” in their tongue. The Triton are highly suspicious of outsiders and have taken measures to limit their presence within their cities to protect their culture and society. To a Triton, an outsider is not seen as a person but another variable to account for in ensuring their safety. Triton cities are built above land and beneath the ocean's surface. They are a unified people who recognize a single emperor, but local governmental bodies also exist. Almost every Triton pays homage to their emperor and the empire.
