"Feel that warm air? The furnaces deep underground work tirelessly to smelt ore and warm these great halls. Now enough idle chatter, lets feast!" - A Dwarf explaining Maldur's heating to a visitor durring Strongbow
The city of Maldur was carved out by the Dwarves long ago. Like other Dwarven holds, Maldur was established to extract rare metals from the earth. It is the only city in the recognized kingdom of Hammer Hold, and there are no notable towns in the surrounding region. The inhabitants focus on mining and forging rather than engaging in realm-wide politics, content to pursue their work within the hold. Maldur is quite large and home to a diverse population. The city is noticeably hot due to the furnaces and forges located deep underground. It is estimated that Maldur is only half a mile deep, which is shallow compared to most Dwarven cities, as some reach depths of four miles. While it may not be as fascinating as far as some cities go, it serves as a model of a standard Dwarven citadel, mostly isolated and self-sufficient.
