"They say The Chasm is the most disgusting place in all of Gevadun. Whoever came up with that has never been to Saint Salvator." - An aristocrat of St. Sorrow

The city of St. Sorrow is the first permanent non-foul settlement in The Chasm. It was founded by Tiefling exiles fleeing the wrath of The Divine Church of the Ash Cleft. This wrath stemmed from the widespread disdain for the church after it imposed compulsory military service on all subjects during the Foul Invasion. As a last-ditch effort to escape, some individuals slipped between the cracks of the realms during the invasion, leaving behind the turmoil of Gevadun and the prospect of facing the Foul on the battlefield. While hundreds of thousands are believed to have fled, only about 5,000 made it to what would eventually become St. Sorrow. The city's architecture showcases traditional Tiefling Gothic style, featuring tall buildings with large pane windows designed to capture light. St. Sorrow is a city of rejects, as all its permanent residents are Shades. A group of fewer than fifty individuals, comprising the most influential nobles, merchants, and priests, acts as the de facto oligarchs of the city. St. Sorrow's only significant export is foul timber harvested from The Bleeding Weald. This strange wood possesses unique properties, making it highly valued in The Chasm and throughout Gevadun. The people of St. Sorrow have long clamored for the construction of a bridge to reconnect their city with the rest of Gevadun; however, the foul magics permeating the realm render travel between The Chasm and the outside world perilous. Above all, St. Sorrow is a refuge for weary travelers in a hellish environment that seeks to destroy everything that enters it.
