Imperium Unitum

Overview

Imperium Unitum is the vast Triton empire occupying the western half of Praetoria. This empire has existed for centuries, and its ancient history is documented in the capital city of Azul. The imperial family has ruled for countless generations, and, much like the Peccatores Regnum, they are respected by the Triton people. The empire governs fairly but with an iron fist; the laws are absolute, and insubordination is met with severe punishment. Although the imperial bureaucracy is extensive, it is efficient, as the emperor swiftly removes any weak elements. The empire does not tolerate failure and demands nothing less than excellence from all Triton citizens. Additionally, the empire is highly distrustful of non-Praetorian foreigners and takes measures to keep them out without provoking a political incident.

Government Operation

The Emperor of Imperium Unitum shares authority of the empire with a council of thirty senators. Any legislation the emperor wishes to pass must be approved by a majority vote in the senate, and any legislation a majority of the senate votes upon must, in turn, be approved by the Emperor. This system significantly slows the legislative process of the empire, but it ensures that the many rulers of the empire agree on the implementation of laws. Senators often come from the wealthiest families in the empire, while the emperor is a part of a long-running dynasty. Under the emperor and the senate are a multitude of bureaucrats and similar administrators who travel to the far reaches of the empire to ensure its operation. This bureaucracy is massive, enabling it to fully encompass the empire and its governing needs.

Military

The military of the Imperium Unitum is vast and well-organized, drawing upon the empire's large citizenry to fill its legions. The Emperor and the Senate collaborate to appoint a general, known as the Commodore, who serves as the military leader of the empire. The Commodore is responsible for planning both defensive strategies and potential offensive operations. Historically, they have held significant influence over the opinions of both the Senate and the Emperor.

Beneath the Commodore are the centurions, who serve as battlefield lieutenants and are also skilled warriors. Centurions are responsible for organizing, training, and equipping their legionnaires, fostering a strong bond between them. A legionary is assigned to a centurion upon enlistment and remains under that centurion's command until the centurion dies, retires, or the soldier is promoted. The legionnaires of the empire receive thorough training and are well-equipped, though they are paid very little. To help supplement their income, legionnaires are granted a small tract of land upon completing their service.

The Legion: The common soldiery and backbone of Imperium Unitum is The Legion. Members of The Legion are highly trained and well-equipped, but are often underpaid. They are experts at aquatic warfare and are extremely well-disciplined.
