The Alomod Merchant Guilds

Overview

The Alomod Merchant Guild is the more laissez-faire authority that governs the eastern continent of Phoenix. The wealthiest merchants in Phoenix lead the Alomod Merchant Guild. Although it is overseen by a council similar to that of The Raxudia Trading Dynasty, the leaders of the Alomod Merchant Guild gain their positions through merit and sponsorship rather than by birthright. The Alomod Merchant Guild is the most profitable trading organization in Gevadun, and it has achieved this success by allowing business to thrive within its realm. The Guild enforces very few laws, permitting local governments to make their own decisions. This low level of centralization has led to independent businesses connecting the continent and generating a steady stream of revenue, which forms the basis of the Alomod Merchant Guild’s wealth.

Government Operation

The governing authority of The Alomod Merchant Guilds is centered within the Council of Gold, which consists of the wealthiest traders in all of Gevadun. The fluid nature of the council and the guilds means that many members frequently join and leave both the council and its broader sphere of influence. Because of this flexibility, the council enacts few laws; however, when it does, it convenes at the Tower of Gold in Neopolis to discuss the issues at hand.

All merchants who primarily operate within The Alomod Merchant Guild's territories must belong to a merchant guild. These guilds can be established in any city, town, or village on Phoenix’s eastern continent, granting them the opportunity to participate in broader political matters. As long as they pay the fee and agree to the rules of being a part of the Alomod Merchant Guilds, they may operate. They can send delegates to Neopolis to express grievances, share opinions, or simply observe the Council of Gold's meetings.

Aside from the Council of Gold, municipalities on Phoenix’s eastern continent primarily govern themselves. With only a few laws and regulations imposed by the guilds, there is little centralized legislative authority throughout the continent.

Council of Gold: The leading council that makes the most significant decisions in The Alomod Merchant Guilds, members frequently join and leave for various reasons.

Merchant Guild: The many small or large merchant guilds throughout Phoenix’s eastern continent offer suggestions and voice their concerns to the Council of Gold.

Independent Leaders: The leaders of the villages, towns, and cities within the Alomod Merchant Guild's territory. They are left to govern themselves and are given little oversight by the guilds.

Military

Both of Phoenix's trading dynasties share the same military system. Instead of maintaining a formal professional standing army, they utilize their considerable wealth to hire mercenary companies, mages for hire, and other similar forces to meet their military needs. While both kingdoms have large and organized guard forces specifically for protecting their cities and towns, this approach has fostered a thriving mercenary industry in Phoenix. Towns like Zalmin’s Harbor have emerged as hotbeds for some of Gevadun’s finest mercenaries.
