Wilderwatch

Also known as the Green Watch

A later addition to the Guilds of Endon, and also an institution older than the presence of humans on this continent, the Guild of the Wilderwatch are the guardians of the old places: the Henges, the Towers, the Feywild borders, and all of the forgotten and eldritch corners. Separate from the running of the Kingdom, and barely able to call themselves a Guild, they have very little in terms of a hierarchy, meeting only twice a year as a corps, at the Callidan Henge, to discuss internal matters and exchange news.

They are respected and feared throughout the Kingdom: in the capital, far from the borders and the wilds, they are barely more than a whisper and a rumour. But the border towns and the outposts in the mountains see much more of the Green Watch, and their prowess is the stuff of legend. They are called the Greencloaks, the Tree-Friends, the Wild Folk, and the Watchers in the Night.

City folk will scoff at the thought of a network of rangers and soldiers, working without authorisation or oversight to protect the peoples of the Kingdom, but the Wilderwatch records stretch back to before the founding of the Kingdom, and findings from the carvings at older sites near Ssthessic ruins signify that they were old even in the early days of their empire.

The Green Watch operates alone or in pairs, with each group's territory cleanly divided, and news spread between them - if spread at all - by means of scratched signals left on tree bark, animal messengers winging through the night, or, if absolutely necessary, notes left on notice boards. They do not take contracts unless necessary, and willl avoid contact or revealing themselves, but there is always a member of the Green Watch nearby, if you know where to look.
