Tylsa Bayheld

One of the minor NPCs from the adventure "The Dragon's Hall", living in Llanybydder.

"I don’t go looking for trouble anymore. But I remember the shape of it. And I’ve read what’s worse."

Tylsa is the sole caretaker of Bydder Library, an ancient bluestone relic hidden beneath the western cliffs of Llanybydder. She is its only attendant now, a solitary steward of centuries-old tomes and crumbling scrolls that no one else bothers to read. When the players come seeking answers, she may not know what happened on the High Road or where Faerval Illuban went, but she knows where to look.

If she deems the players worthy - or if they convince her the danger is real - Tylsa will provide them with three arrows of dragon slaying and the Bydden Sword, a ceremonial blade with a storied past. She gives them not with ceremony, but with an unspoken hope that her quiet years of keeping watch might still mean something in the end.

Tylsa will not leave the library, as her duty lies in guarding the stories, not making new ones, but she will help however she can, guiding players to sources of forgotten knowledge and giving them the tools to face what lies ahead.

Description

Small, sharp-eyed, and stooped with age, Tylsa moves through the dust-cloaked halls of the library like a ghost who’s forgotten how to leave. Her hands are ink-stained and careful, and her voice is low and slow, as if weighed down by the silence around her. She wears dark robes with frayed hems and carries a lantern that always seems to flicker a little too far ahead.

Traits and Motivations

Tylsa is quiet but perceptive, and though she has no interest in rumors, she recognizes the shape of old stories repeating themselves. She is deeply familiar with the history of dragons in the region, and if the players bring up draconic threats, she will grow somber and thoughtful. Some decades ago, she discovered a cache of old relics among the archives—items no one believed were of value. Rather than let them be discarded, she kept them hidden in hopes of one day building a display. That day never came.
